Savannah

Savannah is truly the crown jewel of the low country of coastal Georgia.  Richly steeped in history, it was one of the only major cities spared by General Sherman during his march to the sea.  There are many theories as to why it was spared, but most scholars agree that it probably had much to do with its breathtaking beauty.  The historic district of Savannah looks much like it did 200 years ago.  Oak trees covered in Spanish moss grow side by side with tall palms, creating a southern coastal experience like no other.  The traditional southern fare, while definitely not on the the healthy side, is half of the fun of Savannah.  The other half would be getting lost in the history.  From the touristy buzz of River Street, to the night life of Congress Street, to the meticulously manicured gardens of Jones Street, you will find plenty to see and do.  And if you've read John Berendt's best selling novel, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, then a visit to the Mercer Williams house is a must, along with a twilight stroll through Bonaventure Cemetery.  Although, if you're looking for the famous Bird Girl statue, you won't find her here anymore.  To see her, you'll have to pay a visit to the Telfair Museum in town.  So go hungry, stay up late, and be ready for a history lesson.  Enjoy the photos from our trip!
